Palmyra Township derives its name from the town of Palmyra New York. The early settlers came by a packet boat through the Erie Canal and then by a team from Maumee Bay to Lenawee County. In lenawee County they purchased 400 acres of land in Palmyra's section 18 in the spring of 1834 Ezra Goff and Henry J Paddock were the first settlers.
